"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." Theodore Roosevelt

Putting Politics Aside

Apr 21, 2005 — WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush urged the Senate on Thursday to "put aside politics" and confirm embattled John Bolton to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Bush opened a speech about his Social Security plans with a personal plea on behalf of Bolton, whose nomination is in doubt due to allegations of abusive behavior the White House says are being trumped up by Democrats,

"I welcome you to the nation's capital, where sometimes politics gets in the way of doing the people's business," Bush told insurance agents and brokers.

You know what's interesting to me? Bush wants Democrats to put politics aside and go ahead and confirm Bolton. Okay, Mr. President. You go ahead and put your politics aside and retract the nomination of Bolton. While you are at it, put politics aside and tell Tom Delay he is a disgusting person and should resign from the House. Put politics aside and stop stumping for Social Security reform. Put politics aside and admit that you went to Iraq on a lie. Put politics aside and admit that the government has no business implementing a Conservative-Christians-only policy for judges. What's that you say? Ain't gonna happen? Well, then, I don't see why you would even make such a comment.
