Last Throes of the Week

The Science Daily reports: Earlier Tuesday, 12 people were killed and more than 40 others injured in explosions in and around Baghdad. A booby-trapped car exploded outside a theater in a crowded commercial district southeast of Baghdad, killing four and wounding dozens.

The Chicago Tribune reports: A Shiite member of parliament was assassinated as he made his way from his home to a National Assembly meeting in the capital Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of the transfer of power to Iraqi authorities.

The Boston Globe reports: A US Apache attack helicopter crashed yesterday north of Baghdad, killing both pilots, after a witness said he saw the aircraft hit by a rocket that "destroyed it completely in the air."

The Ireland Online reports: Five people were killed and at least nine others were injured today in one of three car bomb explosions in a city north of Baghdad.They were killed when a car bomb exploded just 15 yards from the headquarters of a police station.
