"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." Theodore Roosevelt

Illogical Extremism

In an exchange with Coleen Rowley, a Democratic congressional candidate in Minnesota, Norah O'Donnell defines one who is against the war as an extremist:
"You're a Democrat running for Congress. It was reported that Republican leaders in your state were just thrilled that you had decided to align yourself with anti-war extremists. Do you think that this could affect your race for Congress?"
But a recent poll suggest the vast majority of Americans are against the war:
Approval of Bush's handling of Iraq, which had been hovering in the low-to mid-40s most of the year, dipped to 38 percent.
And according to Websters an extremist is defined as:
One who advocates or resorts to measures beyond the norm, especially in politics.
I'm confused, how can the majority be outside the norm?
