Bush has apparently lost so much support that he is willing to make the most transparent attempts at bringing the sheep who support him back into the pen. But on the other hand, it may also be a backhanded way of trying to get a precedent set for spying on internet use. Today, we have the announcement that he is trying to enforce an anti-porno law already invalidated by the Supreme Court
. His excuse, of course, is that spying is more effective than parental control. I suppose he would then extend it to say that spying on citizens is a more effective way of ensuring we behave than depending on our sense of patriotism.
I'm not sure if I should think of this as a blatant and wasteful attempt to get his evilgelical support base worked up about something so that they stop falling off the roster so quickly, or if it's really just a legal ploy related to spying. Maybe there is even another option. What do you think?
